SHIFTBIT is a platformer with a twist: you can't reach the exit by jumping alone. Every level is missing pieces of its floor — and those pieces are yours to move. Grab a block with the mouse, drag it into place, and build the path that carries you to the door.

How it plays

Each block behaves differently once you start moving it. Some only slide along a rail. Some sink under your weight or crumble the moment you step on them. A button might hold a block solid for a few seconds before it fades, or flip a whole color of blocks from ghost to ground. Read the room, plan the route, then make the jump.

Controls

  • Move — Arrow keys or WASD
  • Jump — Space, W, or Up
  • Drag blocks — Left mouse button
  • Pause — Esc

i wrote this as a rating, but will repeat myself in the comments :3

it's okay! it's got a very charming concept, i think it has potential - as it is right now, though, it's just too easy.

when a new mechanic gets introduced, it's normal to have a simple 'tutorial' level to showcase it; in this game, every level feels like a tutorial level.  it never gets more complicated than dragging up/sideways a couple times, the mechanics aren't explored or combined in any interesting way, which is a shame! it ends very abruptly, too. by the time i beat all the levels, i was still waiting for the game to really 'start'.

the pop-up descriptions are handholdy and would be better expressed as illustrations in the background of the level.

the way the player cube doesn't move when the platform they're on goes sideways feels irritating. since it's never used as part of the level design, it ends up feeling more like an oversight than an intentional challenge, especially when it's really easy to overshoot.

also, the free moving block only showed up once, then never again?

i enjoyed level 8 and the freeform-like puzzle where you can make your own path forward, i thought it was a very clever way to use the game's unique mechanics and was looking forward to more levels in that same vein with all the new platforms that were introduced, and felt disappointed that it never happened.

i think some audio design would go a long way too! overall, not bad, but too easy and underwhelming for what it could've been.

pretty decent for a 1.0, though! i'm excited to see what the final version is like!!

Thank you very much for your feedback! I will do my best to improve SHIFTBIT by taking each of your suggestions into account :D
